Chug up the Mountain...Then Ski Down!
Mt. Washington's Ski Train

Mount Washington’s famous Cog Railway operates North America’s only ski
train, a truly unique family excursion with beginner and intermediate ski trails.

On the way up, passengers can enjoy the views Mount Washington from fully
enclosed and heated coaches, then ski or snowboard to the base of Cold Spring Hill
to access beginner terrain or to Waumbek Platform (about a third of the way to the
summit) for intermediate-level skiing and riding. Non-skiers can just admire the
views and take photos and take the train back down.

The ski trails run parallel to the railway on land owned by The Mount Washington
Railway Company. They are about one mile long and offer 1,100 vertical feet of
schussing. Snowmaking keeps the trails in shape all season.

Marshfield Base Station serves as the base lodge for skiers and railway passengers.
The station features a cafeteria with seating for 200, a gift shop with ski accessories,
outdoor observation deck and the Cog Railway museum. Ski and snowboard
rentals are available at nearby Bretton Woods.

One-run, three-run and all-day ski packages are available. Ski trains run nonstop
daily from 9:00am to 3:00pm, and Marshfield Station is open daily from 8:00am - 4:
00pm. Reservations cannot be accepted for winter trains.

“The ski train is the fulfillment of an idea we’ve had for over twenty years,” says
Mount Washington Railway President Wayne Presby. “Our goal has been to make
the Cog Railway a year-round experience for the whole family. Every day that
weather permits, passenger and skiers will be treated to an experience that few
people have – seeing the awesome summit of Mount Washington in the dead of
winter.”
