Worth Quoting

"When one door closes, another opens, but we often look so long and so
regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for
us."  ~Alexander Graham Bell

Notes from the Heart...Best Summer Stock in New England

Looking for some great theatre in New
England this summer? The Barnstormers
Theatre  (Tamworth, NH) was chosen as
Best Summer Stock in New England by
Yankee Magazine in its May-June 2010 travel
issue. "This is one of the most appealing
theaters around, with 282 comfortable seats,
plus air conditioning," say Yankee's editors.

Founded in Tamworth, NH in 1931, The Barnstormers is the oldest professional
summer stock theatre in America, and the only one still producing shows in the
classic fashion -- one every week for eight weeks. "That's the way it was done in
the heyday of summer stock, and that's the way we still do it," says  Bob Shea,
artistic director of The Barnstormers Theatre. "It's insane, but it's a lot of fun for the
company and for the audience."

The Barnstormers Theatre kicks off its 80th anniversary season with the riotous
musical comedy "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" from July 6
to 10. Evening show times are at 7:30 p.m., with a Saturday matinée at 2 p.m.
Tickets and season subscriptions are available by calling the box office at
603-323-8500 or online at
Barnstormers Theatre.   ~M.

This Week's Stories:

Feature: Go Fly a Kite!
May is a particularly busy month when it comes to
celebrations. There is Lumpy Rug Day on the 3rd,
National Candied Orange Peel Day on the 4th, Lost
Sock Memorial Day on the 9th and Dance Like a Chicken
Day on the 14th; the fun goes on and on. I think my
favorite is Fly a Kite Day on May 12th...

Garden: Proper Mulching & Other May Gardening Tips
Proper mulching, watching for tent caterpillars, and planting vegetables are some
of the many gardening activities for this month.

Recipes: Black and White Brownies
I made these brownies by happy accident. I was one cup short of chocolate chips
but discovered a bag of white chocolate chips in the cupboard. I improvised and
the results were delicious...
