Notes from the Heart...

Sugaring Season: "NH Maple Experience"
March 13, 20, 21, 27, 28 and April 3, 2010

My local Agway store owner says that sap
is starting to run right now and it won't
be long until maple sugaring season is
in full swing.  That means warm days
(relatively, of course, we're talking above
freezing) and cold nights.

To enjoy a full-blown "New Hampshire Maple Experience" take a trip up to The
Rocks Estate in Bethlehem, NH this March & early April. You'll learn how to tap
trees, see how maple syrup is made and get to enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides
and delicious maple treats.

The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests (that owns the 1,400-acre
Rocks Estate) partners each spring with area inns and other businesses to unveil
the sweet mystery of New Hampshire’s delectable maple syrup and provide
hands-on learning.

For those looking to turn the Maple Experience into a weekend-long North
Country stay, The Rocks collaborates with
local inns to offer weekend vacation
packages. For more information, please visit The Rocks.  For reservations and
other inquiries e-mail info@therocks.org or call 603-444-6228.   ~ Marcia

If you are thinking of starting more than a few packs of seedlings, or already did
last year and ran out of room to grow them on prior to planting outside, you may
want to think about buying or making a home greenhouse....

Recipe: Tangy Beet Soup
Wondering what to do with all the beets from your winter farmers market? Here's
a wonderful soup to try...
