A Warm Evening with Friendly Fools in Maine

If you're in Portland, Maine for the holidays you may want
to warm up with some "friendly fools" at Portland’s 12th Annual
Phyzgig Festival -- a festival of physical comedy -- which
is happening December 26-31.  The festival has  a line-up
of the nation’s best vaudeville acts. Juggling, mime, physical
comedy, magic, puppetry and storytelling performances will
take place at theaters in the city and neighboring Westbrook.
Variety shows with multiple performers will include a live
pit band, “phyzkidz” performances will appeal to children, and beer and wine
will be served at adult-only cabaret shows. For more information call 207-854-0065
or visit
Annual Phyzgig Festival.  ~ Marcia

This Week's Stories:

Travel: Cross Country Skiing in Wolf Neck Woods in Maine
Recently I decided to visit 200-acre Wolf Neck Woods State Park  in Maine on my
cross-country skis instead of in hiking boots.  Gone were the leaves on the delicate
birch trees; ditto the ospreys that nest on Googins Island for the summer. No
kayakers in the bay either. So why did I come?

Garden: Holiday Berries -- The Rubies of Late Fall
Although the well-known American and Chinese hollies can't be grown in most of
Vermont (or Northern New England), other fine red-berried shrubs are suitable for
this and similar northern climates....

Recipe: Curried Cheese Crackers
A yummy holiday cracker recipe submitted by Eastman Inn in North Conway, NH.

The Frugal Yankee Tip of the Week

Use warm to hot water to water the tree.  Adding aspirins or sugars to
Christmas tree water has little impact on keeping the tree "fresh". But tossing in
2 oz of anti-bacterial mouthwash into Christmas tree water will prevent mold
build up.
