Notes from the Heart...

iPods Growing on Trees?

How would you like to reach for an apple to pick
from a tree, and instead pick a nice ripe...Apple
iPod?
Whoa!  Wouldn't that be a nice surprise!  Well, it can
happen if you are apple picking in Vermont this fall.

There are eight more iPod prizes to be found at pick-your-own orchards across
the state in the
Apples to iPods promotion going on right now in apple orchards
across Vermont.  The Apples to iPods promotion, in its third year, is sponsored
in partnership by the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing,
Woodchuck Draft Cider, the Vermont Agency of Agriculture and Small Dog
Electronics.

Specially-marked wooden apples have been hidden in Vermont’s pick-your-own
orchards. If you find one of these unique “iPod apples,” keep it and call 1-800-
VERMONT because you’re a winner of an Apple iPod.  Want more info?  Visit
Apples to iPods.  Good luck!   ~ Marcia

This Week's Stories:

Feature: Getting Theya from Heya
When I first moved to New Hampshire from New York I was told the old adage:
"You can't get there from here." Over the twenty years I've lived here I believed
this to be true. I never thought I could get "there."  I wasn't even sure where it
was. I didn't even know anyone who'd been "there" or anyone that could tell me
what it looked like...

Garden: Growing Garlic
Garlic traditionally has been grown in hot climates, and you'll need varieties bred
for and adapted to cold climates for northern gardens.

Recipe: Terrine of Leeks
Although they are available throughout the year, they are at their best in New
England in the fall. Most farm stands and farmers’ markets have them now.
Choose leeks with firm, very white bases. Remove the tough outer leaves, but the
tender lighter green leaves are very flavorful.
