Notes from the Heart...

North America Wife Carrying Championship

I don't think my husband and I will be participating in
this event this year (Or ANY year for that matter)  I won't
go into why...let's just say my hubby's back may not be able
to handle my um...oh, never mind!  But if you are a fit
and fast couple (or you just want to watch fit and fast
couples traipse through an obstacle course), don't miss
the 10th Annual
North American Wife Carrying
Championships
at Sunday River resort in Newry, Maine
on Saturday,  October 10 at 11 a.m.

Couples navigate a 278-yard obstacle course while the man literally "carries" the
woman.  Women are allowed to carry men, which occurred for the first time in
2005.  The carrying style is the competitors’ choice, though most use the
“Estonian carry” where the wife holds her husband around the waist and tightens
her legs around his neck, thereby freeing the husband’s hands.

The winners of the of the Wife Carrying Championship will receive five times the
wife’s weight in cash and the traditional prize of the wife’s weight in beer. Prizes
are also awarded to second and third place finishers, as well as for special weight
and age categories.

The event  is part of Fall Festival Weekend, which includes the 2nd Annual
Mountain Epic Peak to Peak race, live music by Entrain, wood carving
demonstrations, the Taste of Maine sampling village, wine tasting, the 26th
Annual Blue Mountain Arts and Craft Fair, children’s games and activities, scenic
Chondola rides, wagon rides and more.

Registration is $45 per team.  For more information on the Wife Carrying
Championship, or other events happening at the Fall Festival Weekend visit:
Sunday River resort.  ~ Marcia

This Week's Stories:

Golfing in Maine
Fall is a perfect time to play golf -- not too hot and (usually) not too wet.  If you're
heading to Maine you may want to tee up at one of the state's many (over 100)
public golf courses...

Finally, the secret to perfect shortbread!
