Billings Farm & Museum Celebrates
24th Annual Sheep Shearing Weekend

Billings Farm & Museum, gateway to Vermont’s rural heritage, will host Sheep
Shearing Weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:
00 p.m.
Sheep Shearing Weekend showcases the spring shearing of the farm’s
Southdown ewes at 11:00 a.m., noon, 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., plus the skills required
to turn fleece into yarn. All ages may take a turn with activities from carding
wool to peg-loom weaving.  The children’s farm art show will be on display in
the exhibit barn. Lend a hand making maple ice cream and enjoy baby animal
programs, historic games, ox programs, and hands-on activities. Planting the
heirloom vegetable garden will be underway as well.  The operating dairy farm,
farm life exhibits, and the restored and furnished farmhouse are included in the
entrance fee.  Admission also includes our 24th annual commemorative spring
button. For information, please contact the museum at 802/457-2355 or visit:
Billings Farm.

Notes from the Heart...

I usually try to coordinate the feature print with the feature issue.  But I found
this print so compelling...particularly since I happened to see a lone fly fisherman
during a recent Sunday drive I took through Surry and Gilsum (NH) the other
day.  There he was, up to his waders in river water, looking like he'd rather be no
place else in the world.  What a delight to see this old time print of women fly
fishing.  Looks so peaceful.  Makes me want to take it up myself.

Dear Heart...

RE: Fiddleheads Story.  "Here in the South spring is heralded with the gathering
and cooking of ramps. I believe they are some kind of wild onion, and that they
grow in certain places in the woods." (L.S.)
