Maple Sunday in Maine
statewide locations, Maine

Enjoy the first sweet taste of spring in Maine! Join Maine's maple Producers each
spring as they celebrate Maine Maple Sunday - the day when sugar makers
around the State open the doors of their sugarhouses for the public to join them
in their rites of spring - making maple syrup. Most sugarhouses offer free tasting
and a live demonstration of how syrup is produced, from tap to table. Many offer
a variety of other treats and activities, including syrup on pancakes or ice cream,
sugarbush tours, sleigh or wagon rides, and lots more. Many sugarhouses will
arrange special tours and demonstrations for groups on other days as well - call
them to make arrangements. For more info:

Worth Quoting

"In March...don't be discouraged when a fresh fall of snow spreads a white
coverlet on the meadows and fields, ridges and hills.  That's just nature's way of
keeping up the suspense."  From a
New England Year (1966) by Haydn S. Pearson

Notes from the Heart...

There is snow again.  It actually looks quite lovely as I sit here in my office,
looking at the six tall maple trees in my backyard.  Just this weekend, my
daughter and I sunned ourselves on the front porch, saying that it felt like it was
80 degrees (it was probably more like 55!)
Yes, March is full of surprises, says
Susan Nye in her essay this week.

I agree.  But these wintry surprises can discouraging when you're itching for
spring. The cure? A little patience and some nice
warm chocolate pudding.

The Frugal Yankee Tip of the Week

Cold feet and winter go hand in hand, but did you know that one good pair of
wool socks will keep your feet warmer than two pairs of cotton or synthetic fiber
socks? It' true.
