Notes from the Heart...
Gardens, Shoveling &

Hey, if we can create our own organic gardens,
why can't the White House? I love this picture taken
in 1918 of sheep grazing on the White House
lawn.  I equally like this picture -- okay, it's
photo-shopped -- of Obama happily starting
his own garden.
Roger Doiron of Maine
has started a campaign to get the new
administration to replant a Victory Garden
on the White House lawn.
Not a bad idea.
And looks like the campaign is gaining
ground.  Click here for more about our new gardener-in-chief...

The snow has been relentless here in New England.  We've recently taken a
breather, but you know the next storm is just around the corner.  Don't break your
back shoveling it.
Take some tips from a NH native on snow shoveling safety.

Love fish? This week's recipe hails from the northern region of Spain.  Charlie
says he likes to use haddock, but any mild-tasting fish will do for

The Frugal Yankee Tip of the Week

Keep a regular old plug phone around. One that doesn't need electricity to work.
It uses electricity within the phone lines. So if things get dicey and there is no
power and the cell is dead, you can probably use that old phone to keep in
contact with the world.
