Andrew Wyeth died this past Friday at the age of 91 leaving behind a legacy of
evocative paintings, many capturing the heart of his beloved Maine. A few years
ago we published the story by a reader (and painter himself), "How I Almost Got
Wyeth-ed," a story, one of many told by local Mainers, about his "brush" with the

In Maine, ice fishing is a standard winter activity. Every winter, you'll find
dedicated fishermen (and women) hauling their equipment out on the ice of lakes
and ponds, drilling holes in the ice, and setting up for the duration, hoping to
catch fresh fish.
Recipe: Baked Mac & Cheese
Whenever we ask our friend, Tobey, what he would like for dinner, his invariable
answer is “mac and cheese.” I think “calories and fat” and move on to an
alternative.
From our Archives: Tracing African-American History in New Hampshire
There's the myth that African Americans “just appeared” in the New Hampshire
Seacoast region in recent decades. Not even close. The year 1645 is the earliest in
which this researcher has found evidence of their lives -- so far.
