Notes from the Heart...

Here is a request from a reader:

"Marcia, Hi! I'm still a New Englander at heart though we live in Florida, day I hope to return home...My friend's (100th) birthday was (this past)
Saturday but we'll be celebrating her fabulous life all month ....and year I just wanted to know how to have a small tree or seedlings or
something planted in New England ... (perhaps) at the Cathedral of the Pines
which I remember so well as a young girl visiting there, it is just so very
beautiful. If not there do you know of an honor planting program in Maine,
New Hampshire or Vermont?"

I am looking into this, but if anyone knows of such a program in northern New
England please drop me an email with the details:

Thanks! ~ M.

This Week's Stories:

Feature: Book Review -- Hidden History of New Hampshire
In Hidden History of New Hampshire, D. Quincy Whitney of Nashua shows there’
s always something new to learn about our small state.  Ours is, indeed, a deep
well of history.  Yup, we go way back.

Recipe: Spanish Beans with Clams
In Asturias, Spain, large lima type beans and small clams are used in this recipe's
preparation, but, like many southern European recipes, it adapts seamlessly to
New England ingredients: in this case dried New Hampshire pinto beans and
New England farm raised littleneck clams.

From our Archives: The Tale of Two Fiddles
The Laufmans, soon to celebrate 20 years as a twosome joined at the fiddle,
invited me to a kitchen “junket” at Wind in the Timothy, their home.
