Notes from the Heart...

My son, who is 10, gets such a kick out of The Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods
program.  I think it was the show that made him bold enough  to taste some
freeze-dried worms offered to us by a friend who visited Mexico (our son said
they tasted like Cheetos), and try foods that seemed a bit strange to him (like
lobster).  Hey, if  Andrew Zimmerman can eat coconut grubs and fruit bats, why
not? This week Bizarre Foods travels to Maine, where there are surprisingly
bizarre foods to taste including black flies, June bugs and beavers!  Check out the
promo clip here:

Celebrating the unique character & culture of Maine ~ New Hampshire ~ Vermont

This Week's Stories:

Feature: Winter Fun in Maine -- Gondolas, Yurks & More!
There's plenty to do in coastal towns, mountain villages and cities where festivals
and celebrations take place until the snow melts. Here's a sampling of
opportunities for travelers in Maine this winter.

Recipe: Spaghetti alla Puttanesca alla Neopolitana
Give this piquant sauce a try for a change from standard marinara. Don’t be put
off by the anchovies, which dissolve and meld into the sauce with no trace of
fishiness and add saltiness and depth, which work with the olives, capers and red
pepper to create flavor which has made this a favorite for nearly two-hundred

From our Archives: "Wood" You Believe it?
This funny metal thing in the middle of the floor...Someone said it was here you
could burn wood and produce heat. Where would I get this wood? I pondered. I
found a small hacksaw in the garage, wrote out my last will and testament and
proceeded into the woods surrounding my home to saw down some trees.
