The Heart of New England
Celebrating the unique character & culture of Maine ~ New Hampshire ~ Vermont

This Week's Stories:

Feature: Gardening Through Climate Change
Some of the downsides of climate change for landscape gardeners in northern
New England include an increase in invasive plant species, the range migration
of native species, and changes in precipitation patterns.  But we, either as avid
gardeners or simply folks who enjoy the flowers, butterflies and birds, can take
simple and thoughtful steps to reduce the negative impacts from these changes.

Recipe: Cold Broccoli Soup
This basic recipe can be used with zucchini, roasted red peppers or tomatoes,
carrots or other fresh vegetables and adapts well to a cook’s preferences, such as
adding curry to carrot soup or chopped fresh basil before serving chilled tomato
soup. All improve their flavor overnight, so they are perfect for entertaining.

From our Archives: Cruising on a Maine Windjammer
I wake up to the smell of blueberry pancakes wafting into my cabin from the
galley. I don't even need my alarm clock because I wake up “with the chickens”
or in this case, the fishes.  Sure, it's early morning, but time has somehow
managed to stand still out here off the coast of Maine.
