Notes from the Heart...

Do you have milkweed in your yard? Well, what are you waiting for
-- get out out your frying pan!  Milkweed is, well, a
weed, but
did you know it can be cooked up into a delicious side dish?
Our food columnist, Charlie Burke has been busy this week foraging
these unsung delicacies from his New Hampshire farm fields to
bring you the recipe:
Sautéed Milkweed Pods, a Surprising
Foraged Vegetable.   ~ M  (for more recipes, visit our recipe archive)

Readers Write

"Please accept my heartfelt thanks for the wonderful Clam Bake prize you
offered in June.  My family and I gathered at my son's house Friday evening
and truly enjoyed every ounce!  Even my 8-year-old granddaughter, a West
Coast girl who'd never tasted 'real' lobster and clams before, went wild for the
food.  She even begged extra stuffed clam from her Dad and me! The FedEx
delivery was handled perfectly and everything arrived in great condition.  It
was so generous of you and Sagamore Lobster to offer this prize and I am
delighted to have won. Your generosity created a very special evening for my
family and me, and I appreciate it more than I can say.  Thank you again!"
(Lorrie Hamblin of California, who won the Clam Bake prize in June)

"I currently live in Georgia, but I consider my home to be New Hampshire. My
husband  & I lived there for only 3 years but moved back to GA to be close to
my 80 year old Mom... I often tell my friends I am a 'born again Yankee' because
I LOVE New England!"
(A reader from Georgia)

This Week's Travel Stories

Rangeley, Maine...The Real Maine
Mention the Pine Tree State and most people picture the craggy coastline and
oceanfront towns.  And there is  much to say for all of that. But for me, the
“real” Maine lies elsewhere, in places like the picture book town of Rangeley.
That village of 1,200 residents truly captures the quaint nostalgia of a Norman
Rockwell painting.

Teeing Off...In Maine
For golfers who like variety, scenic locations, and challenging new courses,
Maine is the place to tee it up. More than 100 courses are open to the public,
and offer mountain, lake, and oceanfront layouts.
