Notes from the Heart...

Once in a while I'll read a blog about New England life that makes me laugh
out loud.  This week's essay was one of's taken from
Wil Langford's
Blog; he's a Maine resident who has some funny observations about northern
New Englanders' relationship with the weather.  Read his essay here:
Taking the Weather Personally.

Hope you all have a happy & safe 4th of July!  ~ Marcia

Readers Write

"I grew up in New Hampshire and relocated to northern Maine for a job and fell
in love with the area.  This is truly God's country up here...but all of New
England is a natural wonder with all of its beauty.  I have never left New
England and would never think to..."
(A Reader from Maine)

"I read your article on
New England accents...and it took me back about 40
years.  My Dad, being an old New Englander, could talk on the phone using
only three words...those words were: 'Hello?' "Ayuh. Ayuh. Ayuh. Ayuh.  Bye."
Oh, once in a while he tossed in the 'nope.'  I'm from a long line of New
Englanders and your (newsletter) made me feel at I was reading
about family and places I know."
(A reader from Massachusetts.)

This Week's Recipe

By Charlie Burke
Having the first of this year’s local tomatoes and with some
Maine smoked salmon in the refrigerator, I thought a pasta
combining them and our basil with some fresh goat cheese
would make a nice light dinner.
