"I tried to be a Southerner a while back; it just didn't take.  No seasons, no
taciturn farmers, no neighbors who never lock their doors.  Northern New
England beckoned me home and now we've been here seven years...I've grown
a family, planted many gardens and explored places that nearly made me gasp
from extreme beauty..."

"What a beautiful endeavor I have found while planning a short vacation with
friends.  Well done.  Back in 1968 I was a surfer with a plan to see as many
beaches as I could on this East Coast from Florida to Maine.  It was a time of
youthful energy, education and revolution, in music, culture and all those
things important to a collegiate traveller.  Living in tents in southern Maine,
working in Surf Shops, Head Shops and Leather Shops, then skipping the fall
semester to travel the White Mountains and camp until the first snow would
chase us to return to Florida and school.  Those simple things about New
England always brought me back to visit, but not often enough, as like most
people I have been too distracted by life's events.  Finally it's time for a little
fishing in Vermont, and a little comfort and reflection on what is really
important in life: the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  Again, here's to a
spectacular newsletter."

Authentic Fish Chowder: Hold the Flour!
By Charlie Burke
Although in parts of southern New England tomatoes are found in some clam
and fish chowders, recipes for authentic New England chowders created north
of Boston list few ingredients – and tomatoes are not among them.
