Notes from the Heart...

As I sit here in my enclosed back porch office and look out into our backyard,
my apple tree is in bloom, the maple trees have leaves, the grass is green, the
lilacs are bursting.  Ah, springtime in New England! It makes you want to go
outside...and have a picnic!  This week's feature takes you to ten great ways to
pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic in Maine...from cliffs to beaches to the woods.

Ten Great Places to Picnic in Maine

This Week's Recipe:

Grilled Sea Scallops with Grapefruit Juice
Although I doubt I’ll ever again have scallops this size, very fresh dry pack
local sea scallops should be perfect for this preparation and will, in fact, be
easier to time while grilling.

Celebrate the 14th Annual Fields of Lupine Festival
June 8th through June 24th, 2007

Paying homage to the annual blossoming of this
captivating wildflower, the Fields of Lupine
Festival is a time honored regional event. A
quintessential spring bloom with brilliant
spiking flower heads; the lupine carpets local
fields and pastures in a rolling sea of vibrant
purples, pinks, blues and whites. The long-
lasting blossoms attract equally dazzling
butterflies and create a breathtaking floral
display against the majestic backdrop of the
Franconia, Presidential, and Kinsman Mountain
ranges.  The New Hamsphire communities of
Franconia, Easton, Sugar Hill, Bethlehem,
Littleton, and Bretton Woods join together to showcase this colorful pageant.
Complementing the natural beauty of the floral show, the Fields of Lupine

Pudding Hollow Pudding Contest

Calling cooks all over New England -- and beyond!  Win a Cuisinart Food
Processor, a Calphalon pan, or several other lovely food-oriented prizes, and

Pudding Contest. Any original recipe that calls itself a pudding is eligible. All
of the entry fee will be used to help create a community center in this small
New England town.  The deadline for entry is Monday, September 10.  For

church.  The events on Saturday, October 13, start a little before noon and end
between 2 and 2:30.
