The Pear Tree Studio

Pear Tree Studio occupies a sunny space
in a Harrisville, New Hampshire barn
where a small group of artists support
each other in creative and productive
work: they make toys out of recycled
sweaters.
Marcy Schepker is a tapestry weaver, soft toy maker and community person
with 36 years of experience as a weaver and teacher.
“Central to our lives and work is the knowledge that each one of us is an artist,
a crafts person and an apprentice in our own capacity…each of us has special
gifts and needs,”says Marcy.
Central to the success of the studio is the core belief in the continual balance of
each person’s creativity with the energy they draw from working together. “We
believe this process to be vital to being a crafts person, and also important as a
social model.”
Marcy’s art builds bridges between people. Members of the studio frequently
travel to schools and nursing homes, conducting tapestry workshops. As Marcy
explains, “Creating a large wall tapestry as a group is a wonderful experience.”
Pear Tree Studio is a member of the League of NH Craftsmen and has
represented NH twice at the International Very Special Arts Festival. Marcy's
work is sold across the country in museum shops, fairs, stores, through
catalogues and individual commissions. Her studio has been written up in the
Boston Globe and in Fiber Arts Magazine.
