Scotch Cookies
Inn at Crystal Lake ~  Eaton, NH

1 cup softened butter or shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup molasses
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground mace
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degree F.  Cream
together the butter or shortening, sugar,
egg and molasses.  In a separate bowl, sift
together the flour, baking soda, salt,
cinnamon and mace.

Add two bowls together along with the
milk, combining well.  Form
tablespoon-sized balls of dough, place on
a parchment paper lined baking sheet and
lightly press down each ball with a
floured glass.  Bake for 10 minutes

Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
