Print of the Week:
Notes from my back porch...

I'm just back from a delightful trip to the
Mt. Washington Valley region of NH where
my daughter and I did a whirlwind two-day
inn-to-inn cookie and gingerbread house tour
of 17 bed and breakfasts  and inns.  Don't ask me
how many pounds I gained on this expedition...
but let's just say I did burn off the sugar buzz by walking through these
lovely inns and visiting as many outlets at the
Settlers Green Outlet Village
as we could during our Friday to Sunday stay.  I want to extend a warm
"thank you" to our innkeepers Karen & Bern at the charming snowy
Snowvillage Inn in Snowville, NH: you made us feel right at home.

Next week I will bring to you as many cookie recipes as I can manage to put
online -- along with photos of our favorite decorated trees and sweetly
creative gingerbread houses.

And my favorite cookies?  I had three:  Holiday Rosettes (from the 1785 Inn)
Walnut Toffee Triangles from the Covered Bridge House, and Exotic Double
Chocolate Chippers from the Inn at Ellis River.  YUM!  These, and more
holiday cookie recipes next week!

This Week's Stories:

Dashing Through the Snow
In Keene, New Hampshire, life moves at a manageable pace and there are
still traditional, time-tested activities to enrich childhood... and adulthood.
One such activity is the sleigh ride offered at Stonewall Farm.

How to Make Ice Luminaries
I first saw ice luminaries gracing the steps of a local church several years
ago.  There were six of them, three on either side of the steps, lit up with
simple white candles – which were set inside the ice votive-style.
Shimmering and unadorned, these luminaries were pure enchantment.

Maine WinterFest & Fishing  Derby
This year, Freeport’s WinterFest and Sebago Lake’s DerbyFest have merged
to offer patrons a three-day extravaganza filled with races, ice fishing, snow
and ice sculptures, food, entertainment and even swimming, all in the name
of charity. The family-friendly event will offer activities for all ages and
prizes for contest winners.  Read on...
